Reflexology is a type of massage that uses pressure on the feet or hands to help with stress and other conditions. The theory behind reflexology is that there are areas on the feet, hands, and ears that correspond to different organs and body systems. This is similar to the concept of acupuncture. Reflexology, however, is non-invasive. No needles are used, just pressure from the fingers or hand.
Reflexology works by bringing deep relaxation to the body, and the body can better heal itself when it is relaxed. It is thought to work by increasing circulation and opening pathways or meridians throughout the body, which further enables the body to heal. More and more studies are being done on the benefits of Reflexology. Current studies show the following benefits:
- Decrease in pain, nausea, vomiting, and anxiety in chemotherapy patients. There is a study on the effects of reflexology on Breast cancer patients being conducted at Michigan State University by the College of Nursing and Gwen Wyatt.
- helps alleviate pain from Plantar fasciitis.
-helps with insomnia
-helps with headaches and sinusitis
-stimulates the nervous system.
- increases circulation
- decreases stress and anxiety
At the very least, your feet or hands are going to feel great, and you will feel very relaxed. Why not try some reflexology and see how you feel?
